YOUR NEW OPPORTUNITY The Civil Engineer, Latin America will provide expertise and technical support to the implementation of resilient housing projects in Latin America. This includes housing evaluations and retrofitting designs, calculations and budgets, construction supervision, training to partners, construction workers and homeowners as well as support in the development of engineering resources and technological tools and solutions. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, Latin America, the Civil Engineer, Latin America will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing timely program delivery with quality and technical excellence. RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide engineering support and expertise in resilient housing projects: Lead the creation and/or review structural and architectural designs, construction quantities, checklists, training materials, and digital tools to meet project and partner needs. - Deliver Capacity Building and Technical Assistance: Provide targeted training and ongoing technical support to engineers, builders, architects, designers, apprentices, field staff, partner organizations, construction workers and homeowners, both in-person and remotely. - Develop and Apply Engineering and BIM Solutions: Build and maintain deep expertise in Build Change’s engineering and BIM resources, applying them to confined masonry, structural reinforcement, and retrofitting solutions for informal housing in Latin America. - Oversee Structural Intervention Activities: Monitor and guide on-site and remote construction processes, resolving technical challenges promptly and ensuring adherence to Build Change’s technical, administrative, and legal standards. - Report and Support Organizational Priorities: Prepare project reports and contribute to other tasks aligned with Build Change’s mission, as assigned by leadership. OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE Must-Haves - Educational Background: Civil Engineering. Must have a professional licence to work in Colombia. - Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a civil engineer, with 2 of those years of specific experience in structural design. - Proficiency in engineering software and BIM: Experience using structural modeling and analysis software, specifically Revit and Robot Structural Analysis or equivalent tools. - Proficiency in English and Spanish. - Availability to travel domestically and internationally. - Based in Bogotá, Colombia. Nice-to-Haves - Sector-Specific Knowledge: Experience in informal housing and small buildings, retrofitting, green/sustainable construction, climate change adaptation and mitigation. - Experience working with communities: Background working with communities or in social projects. - Previous experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
