About the role The Appeal Declaration Writer Team Lead oversees a team of Appeal Declaration Writers that are responsible for drafting legal declarations in response to Requests for Evidence (Appeals) issued by USCIS. This individual must have a proven track record of success in ensuring accurate and thorough work, and has the ability to lead and advise a team of Appeal Declaration Writers by providing training, guidance, and performance management to meet deadlines and client expectations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, experience with drafting and proofreading, and be fluent in spoken and written English. Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am-6pm EST Payrate: $15.50/hr What you'll do - Supervise and mentor a team of Appeal Declaration Writers by providing guidance, support, performance management, and payroll to ensure high levels of productivity and morale - Oversee and support team member's training and development - Track key performance indicators (KPI's) for the Appeal Declaration Writer team and report back to the team on strengths and areas of opportunity - Facilitate team meetings and 1:1's to share stylistic updates or other learnings - Oversee and ensure Appeal Declaration Writers utilize notes to create a compelling story about the hardships experienced by our client - Review all written declarations submitted by team members and share feedback or areas to correct - Serve as the primary point of escalation for drafting or handling highly complex or unique declarations for clients - Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by management Qualifications - Possesses excellent English interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal - Understanding of all pertinent immigration case types (T-visa, U-Visa, Med DA, VAWA) - Strong computer literacy - Strong attention to detail - Highly motivated with a strong determination to help the underdog - Highly accountable and proactive with communication amongst the team and cross-functional partners - Strong organizational skills and adaptability to changes in a fast-paced environment - Proven ability to meet deadlines and time manage themselves Minimum Qualifications - High school diploma (or equivalent) required, with legal education or certification preferred - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software - Previous leadership experience preferred - 2 years experience in fields related to immigration law - 1 year experience in legal writing Reporting Relationship Appeal Declaration Writers (4-6) Physical Demands & Work Environment The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
