Hiring Department The University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of University Physicians Job Description This position is a dual post linked to Job ID 55830 (Medical Coding Specialist - Retro Auth Team). The department will be hiring for one position. Responsibilities include reviewing complex clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign codes for diagnoses (ICD-10-CM), procedures (CPT), and modifiers, ensuring maximum reimbursement and regulatory compliance. The role involves working with insurance and government payers to obtain retroactive authorizations for surgical services. Compliance with organizational policies such as Quality Assurance, Remote Work, and Productivity is required. Remote work options are available. Shift Shift Type: 8am - 5 pm, M-F Office/Administrative Hours: No - Position will not have Office/Admin Hours Flexibility for Alternative Schedules: Yes Minimum Qualifications One of the following certifications is required: Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by AHIMA Certified Professional Coder (CPC/CPC-A) Certified Outpatient Coder (COC/COC-A) Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC/CIC-A) by AAPC Specialty certification such as Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC) by AMAC Preferred Qualifications Education: High school diploma, medical office technology, or related background, along with CPC or CCS-P. Credentials in one or more of the following are required: CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, or CCP. Other reputable certifications are acceptable. A copy of the certification is needed.
