Investment Officer, Upstream Investment, Infrastructure, LAC Region The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. Operating in over 100 countries, IFC leverages its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities, aiming to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet. IFC's strategy (IFC 3.0) emphasizes stimulating investment in emerging markets, especially in LICs and FCS, by working "upstream" in project development to create and expand markets and develop projects. This involves understanding and addressing regulatory and sector bottlenecks through policy reforms and interventions, often working with clients to design projects even before reforms are in place. The LAC Infrastructure Unit originates, structures, and finances projects across sectors like energy, transportation, water, telecom, and natural resources. The position involves supporting upstream/pre-investment activities, business development, and working closely with clients and internal teams to generate investment opportunities. The role focuses on early-stage project incubation, client readiness, and business development in Colombia, Central America, and the Caribbean, with potential to work across Latin America. The Investment Officer will collaborate with senior staff to identify and develop new opportunities, particularly in renewable energy, urban infrastructure, transport, and digital sectors. Duties include: Supporting regional infrastructure business development and pipeline creation. Leading pre-investment and advisory initiatives to develop bankable projects. Building relationships with clients, governments, and partners to foster sector growth. Evaluating leads and structuring transactions in sectors like energy, transport, and digital. Managing internal processes for projects and developing innovative financial structures. Negotiating project documentation and solutions. Contributing to infrastructure reform and regulatory processes. Collaborating with World Bank colleagues to create investment opportunities. Sharing knowledge and best practices across teams. Selection criteria: Master's degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Economics, or related fields. Minimum 8 years of relevant experience. Ability to engage independently with clients, partners, and government officials. Strong business development and client relationship skills. Experience sourcing, negotiating, and closing infrastructure investments. Understanding of infrastructure sectors like power, transport, or telecom.
