This position is located in the Verification of Political, Social and Economic Reincorporation Office of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), in Bogota. The Assistant Liaison Officer contributes to the implementation of the Mission’s mandate by contributing analysis and reports, assisting senior officers and monitoring developments on the reintegration process. The Assistant Liaison Officer will report to the Principal Liaison Officer. **Responsibilities**: Within delegated authority, the Assistant Liaison Officer will be responsible for the following duties: - Receives and analyses information contained in communications and publications from different sources, including the press. - Maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues, especially on the implementation of the reintegration process of former FARC-EP combatants. - Assists senior officers with preparing drafts, briefing notes, background papers and talking points. - Prepares summaries of articles from a wide variety of sources and drafts a variety of correspondence, minutes, and sections of reports. - Monitors political, socio-economic, and other politically relevant developments in reintegration, with a special focus on socioeconomic aspects and private sector, ensuring a gender-sensitive approach. - Participates in fact finding and other missions and provides guidelines and feedbacks to support the regional offices. - Provides input into verification and advocacy efforts of the Verification of Political, Social and Economic Reincorporation Office and follow-up on the implementation of the extra-budgetary projects, including a gender-sensitive approach. - Creates databases that track implementation progress of reintegration policy, plans and programs and provides other information relevant to the Verification of Political, Social and Economic Reincorporation Office. - Ensures that all UNVMC policies are applied and followed thoroughly across all processes, including adherence to UNVMC code of conduct and ethics, and integrates a gender-sensitive approach in all functions. - Performs other related duties as required. Education A first-level university degree in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Management or Development or a related field is required. Job - Specific Qualification Professional certification in project management or coordination is desirable. Work Experience A minimum of two year of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required. Experience in Latin America issues is desirable. Experience working in support of the Colombia peace agreement is desirable. Experience working in support of the reintegration of former combatants is desirable. Experience in projects management or on private sector engagement is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the position, fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required. NOTE: Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
