Press Tab to Move to Skip to Content Link Division: Operations Department: Mobility Company: Red Sea Global Job Purpose: - As a Senior Outboard Engine Marine Maintenance Technician, you will lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and - repair of high‑performance outboard engines across a variety of vessels. You’ll mentor junior technicians, manage - complex diagnostics, and ensure engines operate at peak efficiency and reliability. Job Responsibilities: - Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance services on outboard engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, spark plug checks, fuel system inspections, and cooling system flushing. - Engine Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot performance issues,fault codes, and electrical/electronic system errors across various outboard engine brands (Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, etc.). - Major Overhauls: Conduct full engine overhauls including disassembly, inspection,cleaning, and replacement of internal components such as pistons, rings, crankshafts,cylinder heads, and bearings. - Gearbox Overhauling: Dismantle and rebuild lower units/gearboxes; inspect and replace damaged gears, shafts, seals, and bearings; ensure proper alignment, lubrication, and pressure testing. - Fuel & Cooling Systems : Service and repair fuel injection systems, carburetors, fuel pumps,themostats, water pumps, and impellers to maintain optimal engine performance and prevent overheating. - Electrical System Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair ignition systems, starters, charging systems, trim/tilt motors, and wiring harnesses.Propeller & Drive Systems: Inspect, repair, or replace propellers and shafts; perform checks on thrust washers, seals, and hub assemblies for signs of wear or damage. - Preventive Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned failures and extend engine life. - Technical Documentation : Maintain accurate service records, engine logs, and reportson all inspections, repairs, and parts used. - Safety Compliance : Ensure all maintenance and repairs are performed in accordance with OEM guidelines, safety regulations, and environmental standards. - Team Coordination: Supervise junior technicians and assistants during maintenance-operations; provide guidance and ensure work quality. - Customer & Operations Support : Work closely with the operations team or boat users-tounderstand performance issues and recommend corrective actions. - OEM Communication : Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers for technical support,warranty claims, and sourcing of genuine spare parts. Qualifications: - Diploma or Technical Certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. - OEM training and certifications in outboard engine systems (e.g., Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda) are highly preferred. - Valid STCW Basic Safety Training and ENG1 Medical Certificate (if applicable to marine operations). Strong understanding of marine safety practices, environmental regulations, and engine room protocols. Experience: - Minimum of 6–8 years of hands-on experience in servicing and repairing outboard marine engines, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead technician role. - Proven track record in performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, overhauling, and rebuilding of outboard engines and gearboxes. - Experience working on 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboard engines across various engine brands (Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, Evinrude, etc.). - Skilled in conducting complete gearbox overhauls, including gear inspection, seal replacement, and pressure testing. - Background in both workshop-based repairs and on-site servicing of vessels in marinas, shipyards, or offshore locations. - Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting related to ignition systems, trim/tilt motors, control units, and starter systems. Although the role does not typically involve direct budget management, it has a strong indirect financial impact in the following areas: - Reducing Repair Costs: Timely diagnostics and preventive maintenance help avoid major breakdowns and reduce dependency on external service providers. - Optimizing Spare Parts Usage: Recommends efficient use of spare parts and consumables, helping control inventory costs and minimize waste. - Extending Engine Lifespan: Proper servicing and overhaul practices reduce the frequency of engine replacements, protecting capital investment. - Fuel Efficiency: Ensures engines run at optimal performance, which contributes to better fuel economy and operational savings. - Supporting Maintenance Budgeting: Provides accurate input on parts, labor, and overhaul needs to assist the maintenance planner or technical manager in forecasting maintenance budgets. - Downtime Reduction: Quick response to faults and efficient repair work help reduce vessel downtime, maintaining fleet availability and operational continuity. - Through technical leadership and hands-on expertise, the Senior Technician contributes directly to the cost efficiency, reliability, and performance of outboard engine operations Communication and Leadership: - Clear Technical Communication: Effectively communicates technical issues, repair plans, and maintenance updates to supervisors, team members, and non-technical stakeholders. - Team Coordination: Leads and coordinates tasks among junior technicians and assistants, ensuring proper task delegation and smooth workflow during maintenance operations. - Mentoring & Training: Provides on-the-job training, guidance, and technical support to less experienced team members, promoting skill development and safety awareness. - Reporting & Documentation: Accurately documents inspection findings, service reports, and parts usage, and communicates maintenance needs clearly to planners and managers. - Collaboration Across Departments: Works closely with marine operations, spare parts departments, and planning teams to ensure alignment on maintenance schedules and priorities. - Problem Solving Under Pressure: Maintains calm and focus during high-pressure situations or emergency breakdowns, leading the team to quick and effective resolutions. - Customer Interaction (if applicable): Communicates professionally with boat owners, captains, or clients to explain technical issues and provide maintenance recommendations. - Safety Leadership: Promotes and enforces safety practices during all maintenance activities, leading by example and encouraging a safety-first mindset among the team #J-18808-Ljbffr
