Hiring Department Beef Research & Teaching Farm Job Description The University of Missouri is seeking qualified individuals to oversee the care and management of cattle and sheep at its Beef Research and Teaching Farm. Responsibilities include assisting in research protocols, daily animal care, feed manufacturing and delivery, equipment and facility maintenance, and record-keeping in line with research and animal care protocols. The farm serves as a real-world laboratory for research and educational purposes, providing practical solutions for beef producers and learning opportunities for students. Responsibilities This full-time position involves working with faculty to implement protocols for cattle care and management, supporting research and teaching activities. The role includes managing animal research, daily farm operations, and maintaining the farm's facilities, which include a 600-head feedlot and approximately 250 head of replacement heifers and cows. The successful candidate must follow all approved protocols and collaborate with faculty and students. Additional duties include supporting cattle on feedlot and pasture, and equipment operation, maintenance, and repair. General Allocation of Effort 60% Care and management of cattle, including supervising student workers 25% Maintenance, repair, and oversight of facilities and equipment 10% Record keeping 5% Other duties as assigned Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of agricultural practices and experience in hay production Experience in an educational setting and teaching groups of students Proficiency in tractor and implement operation, and ability to drive livestock trailers Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and outside regular hours Ability to artificial inseminate cattle and mix feedlot rations using available software Knowledge of agricultural methodologies and compliance regulations Experience with troubleshooting feed systems and developing educational materials Ability to follow research protocols and perform routine to complex tasks Strong communication skills and ability to develop working relationships Performs other related duties as assigned Shift Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with occasional weekends as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 2 years of related experience. Certifications required or willing to obtain within one year: Beef Quality Assurance (BQA), Public Pesticide Applicator License 1B, and a valid Driver's License (CDL preferred). Preferred Qualifications More than 2 years of cattle handling experience in feedlot and pasture systems. A Master's degree is preferred. Anticipated Hiring Range $52,915.20 - $83,408.00 annually, dependent on education, skills, and experience.
