This consultancy will support the Migration and Displacement/IDAC team in the Data and Analytics Section in the Division of Analytics, Planning and Monitoring with the preparation of publications, data analysis, and other technical work related to migration and displacement of children. Key responsibilities include supporting the organization of IDAC online and in-person events, preparing publications and data analysis, and providing programme management support and assistance to IDAC Supporting Structures. Requirements include an advanced university degree in statistics, demography, social sciences or related disciplines, and at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in migration/displacement research and data analysis. Background Reliable, timely and accessible data and evidence are essential for understanding how migration and displacement affect children. Currently there are significant data gaps about the situation of children on the move within or across borders. These gaps make it hard to fully understand the scale of child migration and displacement, the specific needs of children on the move, and the extent to which they can access assistance and protection mechanisms. This is alarming because evidence simultaneously suggests that children, particularly those who are unaccompanied or separated from their caregivers, are more vulnerable to exploitation, abuse and other threats to their well-being and development. UNICEF has been working to address data gaps and strengthen data capacities to protect and empower children on the move. Scope of work Task 1: Support two IDAC reports/publications with background research, in-depth data analysis and drafting Task 2: Support the organization of IDAC online and in-person events Task 3: Support the preparation of advocacy and communications materials to engage IDAC's audiences and seek partnerships on data for children on the move Task 4: Provide programme management support and assistance to IDAC Supporting Structures Qualifications Education: Advanced University degree in Statistics, Demography, Social Sciences or related disciplines based on quantitative methods Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required *: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in migration/displacement research and data analysis; Advanced knowledge about migration and displacement (including related international frameworks, recommendations, and agreements) Advanced analytical skills; Proficiency in R programming desirable; Knowledge of GIS and related software is an asset Demonstrated experience in academic research and analytical writing; Advanced English communication skills both orally and in writing; Ability to work in an international environment and under tight deadlines; Ability to take initiatives and work independently Ability to work well in a team environment.
