IPA-LAC seeks a (Senior) Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) to join a very dynamic and passionate team. The Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) will oversee a portfolio of research projects, each of which are staffed by our stellar team of (Senior) Research Associates and Analysts. This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding individual to provide strong leadership and act as a critical bridge between leading academic researchers, policymakers, and staff implementing research on the ground. The (Senior) Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) must possess the technical skills to ensure the highest quality and rigor in the design and implementation of our research, the communication skills (written and verbal presentation) to maintain strong connections with our clients and partners (present and potential), and the managerial skills to efficiently and effectively manage complex workflows, staff teams, and project financial (i.e. budgets, grants). Project details: The (Senior) Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) - (S/A)RM - will be leading two streams of work focusing on school dropout, minor migration, and child labor. Stream 1: The (S/A)RM will be working in the design, implementation, and evaluation of a large experiment in Guatemala to reduce school dropout and understand its impact on minor irregular migration. The Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) will be in charge of two teams: (1) Implementation team: This team will work with local organizations such as the Ministry of Education of Guatemala and local NGOs in the design of three interventions to reduce school dropout. The Research Manager (Associate Research Manager) together with the Principal Investigators will design an implementation plan, and with the IPA team monitor the implementing partners. (2)Research team: This team will implement a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) to assess the impact of the interventions on student school dropout and migration. The team will conduct analysis and present results to high level government officials and national/international organizations. Stream 2: The (S/A)RM will be working to build a portfolio of evaluations in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to address child and forced labor. The (S/A)RM will develop partnerships with key actors working in this space, identify promising opportunities for evaluation, and design and implement pilot studies that will lead to large scale experimental evaluations of innovative programs addressing child and forced labor. We expect a commitment of 2 years for this position. The (S/A)RM will be based in one of our Country Offices (with preference in Mexico) and will be flying in/out to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras for conducting project activities. - Responsibilities - Coach, manage, and support a team of Research Associates / Analysts and field staff in the implementation of complex impact evaluations around the country. - Manage relationships with investigators in multiple research institutions, funders and implementing partners to ensure successful projects. - Develop new partnerships and identify opportunities for impact evaluation - Plan and supervise survey implementation, quality assurance, data cleaning, data analysis and other activities related to rigorous impact evaluation implementation. - Oversee the quality of client and partner deliverables - Produce reports for donors, researchers and other stakeholders. - Maintain compliance with IPA’s policies and procedures as well as project country law. - Qualifications - Degree in economics, political science, public health, public policy, or related fields (quantitative background preferred). A graduate degree is strongly preferred. - Excellent management and organizational skills and ability to work independently. (Three to five years of research or management experience preferred). - Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and perform in an entrepreneurial atmosphere. - Ability to present information in an insightful and structured manner, both written and oral, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners. - Experience developing and managing project budgets. - Experience with Stata required.
