Hiring Department KOMU (TV Station) Job Description KOMU 8 is seeking an organized, innovative, and technically skilled individual to lead our technology and engineering efforts. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership abilities, strong technical judgment, effective communication skills, and a passion for innovation, with a comprehensive understanding of current and future broadcast infrastructure needs. The Director of Technology and Broadcast Engineering will oversee the Engineering and Information Technology teams supporting KOMU 8's broadcast and digital technologies in a 24/7/365 environment. This role requires full knowledge of station operations and technical layout. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership: Support daily operations, equipment integration, and maintenance across core infrastructure, automation systems, studios, control rooms, facilities, post-production, and live transmission. Technology Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to enhance on-air and digital workflows, and lead research and adoption of future technologies. Automation Systems: Manage automation systems for master control, production, and news. Project Management: Lead planning, design, installation, and maintenance of projects. Facility Management: Oversee maintenance of station facilities, including HVAC, generators, security, transmission equipment, and grounds. Vendor Relations: Manage contracts related to technology and facilities. Business Continuity: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans. Financial Oversight: Manage departmental budget and expenses. Team Development: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff. Quality Assurance: Ensure high technical quality of broadcasts. Documentation: Maintain logs and incident reports, conduct audits. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to FCC rules. Other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and team-focused, with strong customer service skills. Required experience includes: Strong leadership and management skills with a professional demeanor. Technical problem-solving abilities in high-pressure situations. Extensive knowledge of broadcast technologies, including newsroom systems, automation, RF transmission, broadcast equipment, and digital TV architecture. Experience managing RF transmission systems and electronic test equipment. Proficiency in IT, security, storage, and management systems. Knowledge of current operating systems and software. Collaborative skills with other media facilities. Shift Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and respond to trouble calls in a 24/7 environment is required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Excellent communication and presentation skills. Project management experience. Experience with specific systems like Imagine Communications, Ross Overdrive, BitCentral, Adobe Premiere, Rohde & Schwarz transmitters, and Encompass services. Society of Broadcast Engineers Certification preferred. Anticipated Hiring Range Salary: $95,000 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
