Summary: The Disaster Legal Services Supervisor position at LAFLA is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with a passion for increasing access to justice and addressing systemic inequities in the Greater Los Angeles area. Position: - The Disaster Legal Services Supervisor will be part of the Disaster Legal Services project under the supervision of the LAFLA Pro Bono Team. - The position will oversee a Disaster legal fellow and possibly other staff and coordinate and collaborate on disaster clinics, cases, and projects. - The successful candidate will have an active membership in the California State Bar and a minimum of four to six years of experience in the practice of law. - Prior experience in housing law and disaster-related work is preferred. - The position requires a willingness to assume responsibility quickly, prior experience in a legal services program, and the ability to handle direct service and impact cases. - Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse staff and partners, are essential for this role. Responsibilities: - Supervise attorneys and other staff under the direction of the Managing Attorney. - Work closely with LAFLA staff and pro bono partners on clinics, cases, and projects. - Provide disaster legal services related to housing and public assistance. - Attend various pro bono and disaster-related clinics, meetings, and events. - Work on policy issues related to recent disasters with partners and other collaborators. - Litigate cases in various courthouses in Los Angeles County and represent clients at administrative hearings and writs. - Other duties as assigned to support the Pro Bono Team. Qualifications: - Active membership in the California State Bar. - Minimum four to six years of experience in the practice of law, with prior experience in housing law and disaster-related work preferred. - Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail. - Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to relate to diverse individuals with respect and humility on a consistent basis. - Ability to work effectively with diverse staff and partners, including court and judicial staff, volunteers, and community-based organizations. - Willingness to work beyond a minimum workday, including evening and weekend meetings and events, and workweeks in excess of 35 hours when obligations so necessitate.
