We are looking for a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will lead technical efforts for NoSQL-related projects, evaluate database platform technologies, and provide expert analysis and recommendations based on business requirements. You will collaborate closely with the engineering team to design and implement best practices for database solutions, ensuring scalability and performance across cloud and on-premise environments. Responsibilities Design and lead the implementation of highly scalable and robust architectures for NoSQL database technologies, supporting both cloud and on-premise solutions Optimize database performance through tuning and troubleshooting, offering expert recommendations and resolving production issues by conducting root cause analysis across the architecture stack Establish and enforce best practices within the team to ensure high-quality database operations Define SLA, SLO, and build related SLI dashboards to enable service-level performance monitoring and observability Evaluate emerging Cassandra and NoSQL technologies, lead proof-of-concept processes, and provide detailed risk assessments and insights Plan for database growth, manage capacity, and oversee the life cycle of current open-source database platforms Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer At least 1 year of experience in a leadership or team management role Deep expertise in NoSQL database systems, including architecture design, with domain expertise in at least two technologies such as Cassandra, ScyllaDB, DynamoDB, or MongoDB Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools like Ansible or Terraform to orchestrate and automate complex administrative tasks Hands-on experience with AWS database solutions and related ecosystems, including EC2, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, AMI, Security Groups, and VPC/Subnet/Route53 concepts Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python, Java, Django, or Go for software or data engineering tasks Strong familiarity with version control systems like Git for effective collaboration and code management In-depth knowledge of data store technologies, including relational and NoSQL databases, high availability, replication/sharding, disaster recovery solutions, and database observability through metrics, dashboards, and alerts Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken, at a B2 level or higher Nice to have Certifications in AWS or NoSQL database platforms to demonstrate expertise in cloud and database technologies We offer/Benefits - International projects with top brands - Work with global teams of highly skilled, diverse peers - Healthcare benefits - Employee financial programs - Paid time off and sick leave - Upskilling, reskilling and certification courses - Unlimited access to the LinkedIn Learning library and 22,000+ courses - Global career opportunities - Volunteer and community involvement opportunities - EPAM Employee Groups - Award-winning culture recognized by Glassdoor, Newsweek and LinkedIn
