Job Description The Medical Science Liaisonis a field based scientific expert who strategically supports thescientific and business objectives of a designated therapeutic areaacross the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. The Medical Science Liaison is the primary communicator of AbbViescience within a specific geography with healthcare professionals. The Medical Science Liaison combines strong strategic visionclinical expertise, therapeutic area awareness, serving as aconduit of information to a cross functional customer baseinternally within AbbVie. The Medical Science Liaison develops andmaintains professional relationships with internal and externalcustomers to provide comprehensive medical and scientific supportto AbbVie initiatives in assigned therapeutic areas. The MedicalScience Liaison facilitates the exchange of scientific information,education, and research activities for physicians and ancillaryhealthcare professionals regarding current and future therapies. Responsibilities: 1. Focus on mastery of scientific content,materials, disease state and therapeutic area to establishthemselves as a scientific expert. 2. Identify, develop, andmaintain professional relationships with thought leaders, academiccenters, and researchers in assigned areas of therapeutic interestto ensure access to current medical and scientific information onthe designated therapeutic/product area. 3. Present scientificinformation and education relative to disease state, therapeuticlandscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle tohealthcare professionals including physicians, academicinstitutions, researchers, and other health care professionals. 4. Support research initiatives as requested by AbbVie R&D;,Clinical Operations, and Medical Affairs Departments andphysician-initiated projects including, but not limited to, siteevaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings,external expert identification, and external collaborationmanagement. 5. Serve as internal medical and scientific resource toassigned therapeutic/product areas for development of disease-stateand product communications and materials that are medicallyaccurate, balanced, and consistent with regulatory guidelines. 6. Create, maintain, and collaborate in relationships with internalcross-functional partnerships. Work with in-field commercial teams,as appropriate, to develop and execute account plans designed tosupport and meet shared business objectives. 7. Support and provideon-going training to medical affairs, field sales and otherinternal personnel as directed. Ensure up-to-date clinicalknowledge of product use and competitor data as a scientific expertin the therapeutic area and treatment landscape. 8. Practices corecapabilities in strategic segmentation, as well as optimal resourceutilization. 9. Responsible for compliance with applicableCorporate and Divisional Policies and Procedure, including accurateand timely documentation as it relates to HCP (HealthcareProfessionals) interactions. Responsible for maintaining annualexpenses within assigned budget parameters. Qualifications 1. Advanced degree required (i.e., Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, APP (i.e.:Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner) in a relevant scientificdiscipline. Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science orclinical discipline. 2. Typically requires a minimum of 0-2 years'relevant experience. 3. Must possess problem solving and analyticskills to be able to identify, and translate specific territory andcorporate needs, into an action that will achieve objectives. 4. Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, and other software skills;Excellent written/verbal communication skills. 5. Ability toquickly learn and apply foundational skills in ScientificStorytelling, Identifying Mobilizers and Active Listening. 6. Anessential requirement of the position is to meet health careindustry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to enterfacilities and organizations in your assigned territory. These HCIRcredentialing requirements may include, but are not limited to,background checks, drug screens, and proof ofimmunization/vaccination for various diseases. 7. Ability to learnand convey clinical and non-clinical technical informationeffectively. 8. Ability to engage the audience and help themunderstand and retain information. 9. Must be willing to travel upto 75% of the time.
