**General Description**: Oversee and manage the day to day of the legal function and legal affairs for a group of companies in South America. Provide practical, effective, strategic, and timely high quality/best-in-class legal services in support of the companies’ operations and take ownership of legal issues within the legal team. The position will oversee the legal affairs of the companies in closed collaboration and under the direction of the Global Legal Counsel. This position will implement, direct, lead, and manage the day-to-day legal affairs, which includes the full breadth of legal support for the business, including agreements, employment legal matters, records information, compliance, contracts, M&A;, support when needed, and regulatory, labor and employment and close collaboration with Latin America legal functional experts. In addition, the position will support partnerships and other business arrangements in the local company. This position will also be highly coordinated with other support functions, such as Human Resources compliance, Compliance, Commercial, Internal Audit, Finance, IT, Customs, and Supply Chain. This position will also support South America and provide practical and strategic legal advice to ensure adherence to applicable laws, rules, and regulations within all subsidiaries. Principal **Responsibilities**: Serve as the lead legal resource for the companies, in coordination with the Global Legal Counsel: - Provide strategic legal support to enable the company and subsidiaries to be in alignment with the Latin America regional and worldwide strategic goals. - Foster a preventive focus to support the internal clients, anticipating adopting good practices that mitigate risks and negative impacts on the company business. - In close collaboration with the Global Legal Counsel, provide strategic legal advice and support to the company’s senior leadership and corporate board, including legal implications and legal aspects relative to business practices, corporate strategies, and legal trends. In close collaboration with the Global Legal Counsel, develop and implement annual and long-term strategic legal initiatives for the company, including a strategic plan. - Support, develop, implement, and update legal policies, procedures, and practices in coordination with Global Legal Counsel if needed. - Proactively identify legal needs and opportunities for the company, propose, develop, and implement solutions to meet those needs and opportunities, respond promptly to legal matters, and strong communication with stakeholders. Coordinate and collaborate with Global/Regional legal concerning consistent policies and approaches for legal issues across the region and globally. - Participation in the company leadership team meetings. Participation as legal representative in cross-functional workstreams and strategic projects for the company. - Acting as a business partner by understanding the business needs and providing accurate legal support to the companies. - Implement the strategy of the Legal Department when applicable to the South American affiliates. - Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and ethical standards. - Other duties as assigned. Experience / **Education**: - Minimum 10+ years relevant experience as in-house counsel in chemicals, plastics and/or similar industries with multinational experience is preferred. - Legal firm experience preferred. - Experience with and demonstrated knowledge of South American legal and business transactional issues. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
