We are always looking for exceptional talent to join us on the journey! Your Mission We are looking for a Tax Manager to assist with the management of taxes across the Latin America (“LatAm”) region. Currently, Nuvei has operations in six countries in the LatAm region: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil. However, note that this role will be primarily focused on the five Spanish-speaking countries, +others, as Nuvei grows in the LatAm region. This position will be responsible for handling all tax-related matters in the LatAm region, which includes a mixture of tax accounting, compliance advisory work, is based out of Nuvei's LatAm regional head office in Bogotá, Colombia where Nuvei's LatAm Chief Financial Officer is also based. The ideal candidate will provide tax support to the business, brainstorming innovative ways to solve tax issues raised by clients, offering guidance on tax matters to other internal teams + determining an action plan when there are material developments in tax policy. This position will report to the Senior Tax Manager - LatAm (based in Sao Paulo, Brazil) + will work closely with external partners, such as outsourced accounting + law firms, as well as internal ones, especially the Finance + Commercial + Legal Teams. While the Senior Tax Manager - LatAm is on a five-month maternity leave, this position will temporarily report to the VP + Global Head of Taxation (based in Toronto, Canada). This is a permanent position + will report into the Senior Tax Manager - LatAm once she returns from maternity leave. Since this role has no direct reports yet, it is an exciting opportunity for someone who is “hands-on” + eager to play a key role in our growing Tax Function in the LatAm region. Responsibilities Tax Accounting: - Work closely with the Accounting Team to ensure appropriate accounting of direct + indirect tax accruals, payments + true-ups in the quarterly financial statements, - Reconcile direct + indirect tax GL accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis to ensure accurate journal entries will be recorded. - Assist in the preparation of current + deferred income tax provisions for the LatAm entities in the quarterly financial statements, accounted for under IAS 12. - Work with the A/R + A/P Teams to ensure that sales tax + withholding tax processes are followed. - Create new + improved processes with the Accounting Team to improve efficiency. Tax Compliance + Audits - Develop in-house capabilities to complete + file direct + indirect tax returns in Colombia. - Gather information requested by outsourced accounting firms for them to prepare + file both direct + indirect tax returns in Argentina, Chile, Mexico + Peru. Review filings that are prepared by these outsourced accounting firms for reasonability. - Calculate estimates of direct + indirect taxes to determine periodic cash tax payments + tax withholdings from payments in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico + Peru as needed. - Have a complete understanding of all statutory + tax reporting deadlines, including third party tax information reporting requirements, so that they are met. - Manage tax audits + inquiries from Tax Authorities in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico + Peru. - Ensure that material tax compliance issues are properly documented in working paper files. - Keep the Global Tax Team's SharePoint site up to date. Tax Advisory: - Provide tax support to internal teams (Finance, Payroll, Commercial, Product + Legal Teams, amongst others) as necessary. - Assist the Finance, Product + Legal Teams with the modeling of direct + indirect taxes across different contracting structures to ensure tax efficiency for both Nuvei + its clients. Guide the Product Team through implementation of third-party tax information reporting regimes. - Identify opportunities for how Nuvei can integrate tax-related upgrades to its payment service offerings to make its products more competitive + useful for its clients. - Research direct + indirect technical tax issues by reading + interpreting source legislation + case law. - Monitor changes in LatAm tax legislation + OECD tax policy, particularly those that impact the FinTech, financial services, online gambling, online marketplace, cryptocurrency + technology industries. Work with other members of the Global Tax Team to develop + communicate an action plan to the business, as a result of changes in tax legislation. - Work with other members of the Global Tax Team to complete ad-hoc special projects, such as global transfer pricing implementation, intercompany funds settlement structures for clients, cash funding of or repatriation from LatAm legal entities. Requirements: - A minimum of 6 to 8 years working in the Tax Service Line of a Big 4 accounting firm, a large law firm and/or the in-house Tax Department of a multi-national corporation (Fintech is a plus). - Degree in Accounting, Finance, Law or related field. - A strong knowledge of Colombian tax law, regulations + compliance processes in either direct or indirect tax, with working-level knowledge of the other type of tax, is required. Exposure to the tax regimes + compliance processes in Argentina, Chile, Mexico + Peru is required. - Detail-oriented with strong analytical + problem-solving skills. - Ability to work independently + collaborate with cross-functional teams. - Excellent communication skills to provide clear, concise, + actionable advice on tax matters. - Self-motivated, hard-working, curious, attention to detail, strong organizational skills + ability to utilize technology. - A high level of personal interest in the FinTech, Financial Services and/or Technology industries, as well as new developments in tax policy, is required. Experience working in any of these industries is preferred. - Ability to speak Spanish + English is required.
