Purpose The Software Engineer Specialist is responsible for providing technical analysis, design, development, implementation, and support of mission critical applications. The incumbent is responsible for current and future implementation projects within the group, introducing new technologies to meet business objectives and providing technical consultation, risk management, decision support and guidance to all medium to high complexity development projects. Accountabilities Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Build cost effective and efficient applications to meet business objectives by analyzing user requirements, providing technical specifications and design, developing/maintaining programs according to standards. Provide recommendations on departmental standards surrounding systems architecture, application development, systems integration, data modelling, testing, performance testing as well as, performing reviews and walkthroughs of all major project deliverables to ensure the quality and completeness of functionality. Provide production and user acceptance testing application support to complex technical problems on all assigned applications and technology that serve each business unit by analysing problems, implementing solutions, and developing new procedures surrounding support. Maintain a good understanding of the Division's business strategies, business policies, financial instruments, risk management and Backoffice processing. Participate in team meetings to provide status updates, execution, and development details. Show initiative in setting and meeting goals within an environment of managed change. Dimensions The incumbent must have a good understanding of business systems development and business analysis, with the ability to support key development as required. The incumbent must have excellent analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills in order to develop and support systems to meet user requirements. The incumbent must be creative and flexible in identifying technical solutions to resolve business problems in a rapidly changing, demanding and complex business environment. High degree of discretion and independent judgment to determine work priorities and approval of code delivery to UAT and Production. The incumbent must have a detailed understanding of the application systems he/she is responsible for. The incumbent must have good interpersonal and communication skills in order to deliver proposals, provide user support and interact with team members and other departments. Education / Experience / Other Information Must have 5 years of technical hands-on working experience with Java Enterprise Edition, Java Script, XML, XSL, and open source tools/libraries. Must have 3 to 5 years of technical hands-on working experience with Object-Oriented Design, Design Patterns, Microservices, Domain-Driven API design and Service Oriented Architecture. Must have technical hands-on working experience with JSON, WSDLRestful, SOAP, Redis, HTTPs and SOAPJSON. Must have technical hands-on working experience with distributed system development using Web Services (Restful or SOAP), HTTPs, JSON, MQ and Redis. Must have technical hands-on working experience with Apache HTTP, Tomcat or JBoss. Must have technical hands-on working experience with data modeling & Relational Databases (e.g., MS SQL Server & DB2). Technical hands-on working experience with Spring such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Batch and Spring Security. Technical hands-on working experience with open source development environment (Linux/AIX) and Security Standards. Technical hands-on working experience with automation and testing frameworks or tools such as Junit, Postman and Cucumber would be an asset. Technical hands-on working experience with performance testing frameworks or tools such as Gatling and JMeter would be an asset. Technical hands-on working experience with Cloud based environments would be an asset. Technical hands-on working experience with Git, Gradle, Continuous Integration & Deployment Tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube. Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills and is capable of multi-tasking and managing concurrent tasks and initiatives. Comfortable working in an Agile environment, and familiar with Agile development practice, i.e., TDD, CI/CD. Must have excellent oral and communication skills in English. Must be a self-starter, fast learner with positive attitude and team player. Must be proficient in MS Office and Project Management tools.
