About the Job The Lifetime Value Co. is looking for a Backend engineer to join our growing team. If you’re comfortable writing backend APIs, working in database design, debugging complex issues that span multiple systems, optimizing distributed infrastructure, and working on innovative products, then this might be the job for you. Your experience here will allow you to significantly contribute to our Payments and Risk engineering efforts, learn a broad spectrum of skills across the stack, and work with various technologies. You will have a voice in what you build and opportunities to validate your ideas with data and testing. This role focuses on implementing fraud-blocking strategies for post-paywall transactions, improving billing processes, managing integrations with external providers, and addressing tech debt to enhance developer and team quality of life. The Backend Engineer is expected to interact with the team from 10:30 am EST to 5:00 pm EST, Monday to Friday. What You Will Get to Do Optimize fraud-blocking measures for post-paywall purchases, especially working with external providers. Manage integration of new fraud and chargeback data providers. Collaborate with senior engineers to migrate business logic to separate services and address tech debt. Improve internal tooling and automation to enhance team productivity. Identify future opportunities in the evolving online payments space. Utilize learning resources to stay updated on development techniques, share knowledge, and learn from others. What You Bring to the Table 3+ years of software engineering experience. Bachelor’s Degree, Technical Degree, Bootcamp in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. Fluency in at least one object-oriented language, preferably Ruby. Familiarity with SQL and databases. Experience with Git. Ability to learn new technologies quickly. Understanding of testing methodologies like TDD, BDD, and integration testing. Knowledge of collaborative coding practices and agile development. Familiarity with Unix-based systems, Docker, and Kubernetes. Self-motivated and resourceful. Entrepreneurial mindset and innovative thinking. Excellent communication skills. Pluses Experience with payments or fraud prevention. Experience with e-commerce or subscription services. Knowledge of JS frameworks like React. Familiarity with A/B testing and GraphQL.
