Job Summary: For this role, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior/Principal Support Engineer (DBA & ETL) to join our team. This role is critical not only for responding to and resolving high-priority data alerts, but also for proactively identifying and addressing root causes to improve stability across both ETL processes and our database environments. **Responsibilities**: - Lead and oversee support of database platforms (SQL Server, Redshift, RDS, Azure) while delivering high-impact ETL engineering workstreams that deliver meaningful business value. - Proactively monitor alerting systems (SQL Sentry, CloudWatch, xMatters, SolarWinds) to detect and assess ETL and database performance anomalies. - Lead response efforts to production issues, using both documentation and judgement to come to a solution that will appropriately resolve the issue. Lead by example and help mentor others. - Perform critical database administration tasks, such as job monitoring, backup verification, disk space analysis, access management, and activity audits with mínimal supervision. - Lead troubleshooting around AWS services used around DBA and Engineering with a solid working knowledge of Redshift and RDS. - Display strong communication, translating complex engineering and database related issues into clear, actionable updates to ensure others understand and effectively follow through with work. - Ensure SLAs are met by monitoring turnaround times and holding a high standard for issue resolution and operational excellence. - Take initiative in proactive issue prevention, reviewing historical production issues, identifying patterns, and proposing solutions that challenge what we are doing today. - Help with long-term database architecture strategy, ensuring processes being built align with best practices and scale. - Proactively identify performance bottlenecks across query patterns, schema designs, and indexing strategies and lead the resolution of this effort. - Drive cost optimization initiatives in cloud platforms (e.g., Redshift, RDS), identifying inefficient queries, oversized clusters, or underutilized storage. Skills and Experience: - Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly SQL Server, Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL. - Experience developing data pipelines and working with ETL tools, with exposure to AWS Redshift, RDS and CloudWatch. - Experience monitoring and triaging alerts using tools such as SQL Sentry, xMatters, Database Performance Monitoring solutions, AWS CloudWatch, and more. - Proficient in writing and developing SQL queries for analysis, troubleshooting, and pipelines. - Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and their data services. Experience with any of the following would be a plus: Snowflake, Matillion, Coalesce. - Strong problem-solver with attention to detail. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Ability to work independently but also as a team. - A proactive approach towards taking ownership over tasks and showing initiative and not having to always be asked.
